Whether we realize it or not, we’re all playing a Game of Performance.
The Game of Performance is the invisible system of rules, expectations, incentives, relationships, and conditions that shapes how we think, feel, behave, and define success.
How it shapes us
It’s the game we’ve inherited and learned to survive and succeed within.
We encounter it at work, at home, in our relationships, and in the expectations we place on ourselves.
Over time, we learn ways of responding, succeeding, protecting ourselves, and trying to get ahead.
But what if the challenges we keep encountering aren’t simply about how well we’re playing?
What if some of them are connected to the game itself?
A different perspective
Changing our perspective can help us recognize influences, choices, and possibilities we haven’t been seeing.
Four Perspectives. Different Ways of Seeing the Game.
Explore the lens you use most
The same challenge can look very different depending on the perspective we’re using.
Each perspective reveals something valuable—and can make something else harder to see.
Your assessment result suggests the perspective you relied on most often in the situations presented. It is not a fixed identity, personality type, or measure of development.
You are not a Character, Player, Programmer, or Architect. These are perspectives you can operate from.
Explore your familiar one, then see what the others might reveal.

Recognizing your perspective can change what you see. But what happens when you know you want to respond differently—and still find yourself doing the same thing?
Transformation takes time. But an upgrade can begin in a moment.

Bringing the Perspectives Together
You Don't Have to Choose Just One.
Each perspective helps us recognize something valuable.
Character
Character connects us to the lived experience of the game.
Player
Player helps us recognize our agency and develop our ability to influence results.
Programmer
Programmer helps us understand and evolve the internal system shaping how we operate.
Architect
Architect helps us recognize and redesign the larger conditions producing our experiences and outcomes.
The opportunity isn't to abandon your familiar perspective.
It's to become increasingly capable of recognizing which perspective you're using, what it helps you see, and what another perspective might reveal.
Because when you expand your perspective, you expand what you can recognize, what you can influence, and what you may become capable of creating.
One Challenge. Four Different Perspectives.
Imagine you’re continually overwhelmed at work. You have too much to do, not enough time, and a growing sense that you’re falling behind.
Character
“How am I going to get through everything?”
Focus on the immediate experience and its impact.
Player
“How can I organize my priorities and work more effectively?”
Look for better strategies, habits, and capabilities.
Programmer
“Why do I keep taking on more than I can manage?”
Explore beliefs, boundaries, and familiar internal responses.
Architect
“Why does this environment keep producing overwhelming demands?”
Examine expectations, incentives, resources, and structures.
Each perspective reveals something different—and each may offer part of the solution.
You may need to address the immediate workload, develop a capability, change a familiar pattern, and redesign the conditions that keep recreating the problem.
Try It With Your Own Challenge
Choose one challenge you’re facing. Ask:
Character
What am I experiencing?
Player
What could I learn or do differently?
Programmer
What internal pattern might influence my response?
Architect
What conditions might be reinforcing this challenge?
Which question came most naturally? Which revealed something you hadn’t considered?
What is one small next step you can take?
Where Will You Begin?
